Two arrested on charges of smuggling liquor from Kerala

The Prohibition Enforcement Wing Police led by the Additional Director General of Police C.K. Gandhirajan arrested two youth on charges of smuggling liquor from Kerala. A release from the Prohibition Enforcement Wing Police said that during an inspection on Sunday at the Walayar PEW check post, the police found the two youth with 19 liquor bottles. The police seized the liquor bottles and also the vehicle.

He then had a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, West Zone, T.P. Sundaramoorthy, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural, E.S. Uma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, Pravesh Kumar and other officers to initiate measures to stop the flow of rectified spirit, spurious liquor and IMFL from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.

He suggested that the police could invoke Section 52 (E) of Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act and Section 110 (g) of the Criminal Procedure Code against the offenders.

The release said that in 2013 (till March) the PEW police had arrested 21,919 persons including 1,974 women in various prohibition-related offences.

The police had also seized and destroyed 2.02 lakh litres spurious liquor, 23,269 litres fermented wash, 4,804 litre toddy, 54,831 litre rectified spirit and 2.46 lakh liquor bottles.

The police had also seized 486 vehicles that were used in committing the offences.

Similarly in 2012, the PEW police had registered 93,757 cases, arrested 94,644 persons including 9,469 women, destroyed 21.15 lakh litre rectified spirit, 2.21 lakh litre fermented wash, 25,539 litre toddy, 2.39 lakh litre arrack, etc.

The police had also seized 1,700 vehicles and enabled auction of 641 vehicles. The auction fetched Rs. 1.14 crore to the State Government.

The release also said that the PEW police had detained 240 persons under Goondas Act and through judicial orders sent 260 persons out of their native places.

Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and
gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
