As many as 2,16,371 children under five years of age were administered oral polio vaccine on Sunday in the district during the nation-wide Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation programme. The District Medical Office said that around 87.49 per cent of the children were administered the pulse polio vaccination and the programme was a great success.  Around 900 children of migrant workers under the age of five years were also administered pulse polio immunisation.

According to district chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Pankaj Shukla, total number of children covered is likely to increase in the next two days. As many as 4,800 vaccinators and supervisors took part in the pulse polio drive held at 1,480 booths across the district. The immunization programme focused on some 300 construction sites across the state capital, he added.

“Transit booths set up at bus terminals, railway station and airport also got good response,” the District Medical Office said. The district health administration had already made elaborate arrangements for the pulse polio immunisation drive. The next polio vaccination drive is on February  23.
