Solar scam: Oommen Chandy meets Sonia, says no leadership change

Embroiled in solar panel scam, Kerala CM Oommen Chandy met Congress president Sonia Gandhi Sunday. After the meeting, he said there was no discussion on leadership change in the state.

The high command has already come out in support of Chandy and rubbished demands from the CPM-led Opposition for his resignation.

However, sources said, a cabinet reshuffle is on the cards. This is significant as a proposal to induct state Congress president Ramesh Chennithala into the Cabinet some time ago had revived the factional fight in the party, with leaders openly sparring over the portfolio he should get.

While Chennithala's backers had demanded the Home portfolio for him to establish him clearly as the No. 2 in the government, Chandy supporters had opposed it.

The solar panel row and the aggressive opposition attack appear to have forced the Chandy and Chennithala factions to close ranks and put up a united face. "I had a detailed discussion with Sonia Gandhi. I explained everything about the latest developments in Kerala," Chandy said, adding the Congress president asked the party and UDF to work unitedly.
