Youth Congress block president attacked

The Youth Congress Wadakkencherry block president was attacked, allegedly by CPI activists, in the wee hours of Tuesday in Thrissur.

The condition of the victim, Abilash, 28, of Chittilappilly, is stated to be critical. He was allegedly involved in the attack on AIYF activists on Monday during a protest march in Thiruvananthapuram. The incident occurred at Puzhakkal in the early morning when Abilash was returning home after taking part at the protest march taken out to the house of Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

The attackers who reached the spot in an Innova car made sure that he was Abilash by asking his name two times when he got down from the bus. Later, when he boarded the motor cycle parked near the bus stop, they attacked him from behind with iron rods. He suffered serious head injuries in the attack. Soon after the incident, the attackers fled from the spot.

The local people rushed him to the Cooperative Hospital in Thrissur. “The police  suspect that the attack was the fallout of the Thiruvananthapuram attack and we have intensified search for the culprits,” said P C Biju Kumar, the circle inspector of Peramangalm Police station. Abilash’s house at Chittilappily was also attacked by the unidentified miscreants.  The window panes of the house were also broken in the stone pelting at the early morning.
