Sanjay Dutt seeks parole

Sanjay Dutt, who has been sentenced to a 42 month jail-term for the possession of a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle, has sought for parole from the prison authorities. The actor has an undisclosed illness that needs treatment. We’re not sure if these are the privileges extended to every inmate in Pune’s Yerawada prison, but star status does have its payoffs.

While Jail Superintendent Yogesh Desai did not elaborate upon the nature of the illness, he did tell a source: “We have forwarded his parole application to the divisional commissioner, who will take a decision. The divisional commissioner will get a detailed report from the concerned police stations and then decide on the application. While granting parole, the conduct of Sanjay Dutt will also be considered.”

Another prison official said that a parole up to 30 days is issued in cases of family emergency, which can also be extended up to 60 days. The nugget leaves us intrigued. What is this emergency?

All sources and well-wishers remain tight-lipped on that front. But it’s still a long road ahead for Sanju baba, who will be returning to prison to pass the remainder of a very long sentence.
